Kate McGrew moved from New York City to Cork City in 2008, quickly gaining notoriety as Lady Grew: writing and performing vocals for dancehall reggae/hip-hop tunes, releasing EPs, appearing on vinyl with Dublin labels Ghetto Quietly and !kaboogie, and making music videos. She's performed in clubs and at festivals all over Ireland, the UK, Germany, Australia, and America. Her two comedy musicals "Sweet Pang!" and "Hooker P.I." - which combine her skills of acting, singing, clowning, rapping, and pole-dance - sold out shows and won 4 star ratings at Edinburgh Fringe Fest and two awards at the San Diego International Fringe Fest.
Grew graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Wesleyan University in the USA. In 2013, she starred in the 20-part award-winning docu-drama RTÉ 2 series "Connected". Her candor about her experience in the sex industry shocked the nation and she was catapulted onto the front lines of sex workers' fight for their rights in Ireland. Since 2014 she has been Director of Sex Workers Alliance Ireland, and her music and shows continue to reflect a modern feminist reality.
"Arts reviewing has seldom been such an unqualified pleasure."
- Marc O'Sullivan, Irish Examiner
"The frankly phenomenal powerhouse that is Lady Grew whipped the crowd into a frenzy...She deserves to be a massive star, and with this much talent to burn, she surely will be."
- Kilkenny Arts Festival
